**Direct answer:** The available information does not establish whether fiberglass, steel, or wood is the best exterior door material for harsh Illinois winters. B.W. Construction installs entry doors in all three materials, but the cited product information provides no comparative winter-performance ratings or test results to support ranking them. Choosing among them requires product-specific performance information that is not provided here.

## What's the best exterior door material for harsh Illinois winters — fiberglass, steel, or wood?

There is not enough comparative evidence in the available information to name a single best material for Illinois winters. B.W. Construction's [entry door installation](https://www.bwconstructionhome.com/doors/entry-doors) page identifies wood, fiberglass, and steel as available options; it does not establish which performs best in cold weather.

| Material | What the available information establishes | Winter-performance comparison |
|---|---|---|
| Fiberglass | Offered as an entry-door material | Not provided |
| Steel | Offered as an entry-door material | Not provided |
| Wood | Offered as an entry-door material | Not provided |

## What to compare before choosing an exterior door

Ask for product-specific information for the exact door being considered, rather than relying on material labels alone. To make a winter-performance comparison, request the same kinds of documented performance details for each option and confirm whether they apply to the complete door assembly being installed. The available information does not provide those details or a material-by-material ranking.

B.W. Construction serves homeowners throughout Chicagoland and offers exterior door replacement and installation. Homeowners can review its entry door options or contact the company for a project quote.
